We are thrilled to announce the release of ThingsBoard Edge 4.0.1! This update includes all features from ThingsBoard 4.0 (except the Calculated Fields feature, which is coming soon), and introduces two major enhancements designed to boost scalability and autonomy at the edge!
Edge Clustering support
As deployments scale, single node deployments may experience performance limitations due to high load. Edge Clustering support removes these limitations by enabling horizontal scalability and high availability for Edge deployments.
Although single-node deployments are ideal for simple to medium or non-critical setups, clustering is a must for large-scale or critical deployments.
With clustering, you can:
- Distribute workloads across multiple Edge nodes
- Ensure high availability and fault tolerance
- Scale horizontally as your device fleet grows
Your edge infrastructure becomes more flexible and resilient, ready to handle real-world demands without failure!

Think your deploymentโs ready for the next level? Set up Edge in cluster mode now!
Create and edit Rule Chains directly on Edge
Until now, you’ve had to make a round trip from the Edge to the Cloud and back to edit and test your Rule Chains. This was a time-consuming process for teams working in real-world environments.
Edge 4.0.1 now supports rule chain creation and editing:
- Have full autonomy to build and modify rule chains locally.
- Access rapid testing and iteration without waiting on cloud syncs.
- Adapt to local Edge site requirements in real time.
Imagine your team is on-site, deploying devices in a remote area. You need real-time agility to adapt rule logic to new sensor behavior without going through the cloud. In the past, you’d have to go through the Server UI and sync changes. Now? You just open the Edge UI and modify the rule chain!
And what about synchronization and conflicts?
Rule chains are automatically synchronized when changes are made. And if changes are made on both sides at the same time, the operator (the one who saves later) is notified of the conflict and asked if they want to override the previous version.

Your Edge is active, smart, and fully empowered. The next time you need to edit a rule chain… you just do it!
