Flow rate card
Who it’s for
Process engineers, plant operators, and maintenance technicians ask “what is the current flow rate through this pipe or pump and is it within the normal operating range?” They need a single-value card that communicates flow status at a glance.
What it does
A device reporting flowRate = 22 m³/hr renders the current value in a card color-coded by operating level: blue for Low (below 10 m³/hr), green for Normal (10–30 m³/hr), orange for Elevated (30–50 m³/hr), and red for High (above 50 m³/hr).
- Live flow rate reading in m³/hr with color coding across four operating bands
- Color-coded icon and value make the flow level immediately visible
- Shows one sensor’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different pipes or pumps side by side
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
flowRate | Main value | Timeseries | Flow rate in m³/hr; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Flow rate, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range (m³/hr) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–10 | Low | Blue |
| 10–30 | Normal | Green |
| 30–50 | Elevated | Orange |
| 50+ | High | Red |
How to customize
- To change the operating thresholds — edit Icon color ranges and Value color ranges; set the same boundaries in both so the icon and the number always agree.
- To change the card colors — edit the color for each operating band in the widget settings.
- To change the units — change the Units field in the widget settings to match your flow meter’s output (e.g., L/min, GPM).
Tips
- Place one card per pump or flow meter on a process overview screen so operators can scan all flow points without drilling into individual asset dashboards.
- A blue card (Low) on a line that should be flowing indicates a potential blockage or closed valve — combine this widget with an alarm rule to alert on unexpected low-flow conditions.
- Use consistent operating colors across all flow rate widgets.
