Who it’s for

Allergy sufferers, public health managers, and outdoor event organizers ask “can I see the allergy risk status at multiple locations across the network without reading individual numbers?” The background-color variant turns each card into a color signal that communicates risk level at a glance on a city-wide or campus monitoring dashboard.

What it does

A sensor reporting IAI_level = 4.1 displays the index on a card whose entire background fills with the risk color: green for Good (0–2), light green for Moderate (2–6), orange for Elevated (6–9), and red for Hazardous (above 9).

  • Full-card background color makes allergy risk readable across a room without reading the number
  • Live IAI reading
  • Shows one sensor’s reading per widget; tile multiple widgets to cover an entire monitoring network at a glance

How to set up

Data keys

KeyRoleTypeDescription
IAI_levelMain valueTimeseriesIndividual Allergy Index value (unitless); change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled IAI, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

How to customize

  • To change the severity thresholds — edit Icon color ranges and Value color ranges; set the same boundaries in both so the icon and the number always agree.
  • To change the band colors — edit the color of each range in Icon color ranges and Value color ranges.
  • To add a units label — set a custom Units label in the widget settings to indicate the index scale to end users.

Tips

  • On a public information display, the background color instantly communicates allergy risk to passersby who may not read the numeric value.
  • Use consistent severity colors across all air quality and allergy index widgets on the same dashboard.
  • Pair this card with an IAI chart card so health managers can review the trend alongside the current status.
