Who it’s for

Allergy sufferers, public health managers, and outdoor event organizers ask “is the allergy risk at this location high enough that sensitive individuals should take precautions today?” They monitor the Individual Allergy Index to issue timely advisories before pollen and allergen levels become problematic.

What it does

A sensor reporting IAI_level = 4.1 displays the index on a color-coded card: green for Good (0–2), light green for Moderate (2–6), orange for Elevated (6–9), and red for Hazardous (above 9).

  • Live IAI reading with automatic color coding across four severity bands
  • Severity bands reflect pollen and allergen concentration risk levels for sensitive individuals
  • Shows one sensor’s reading per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor locations across a network

How to set up

Data keys

KeyRoleTypeDescription
IAI_levelMain valueTimeseriesIndividual Allergy Index value (unitless); change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled IAI, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

9+HazardousRed

How to customize

  • To change the severity thresholds — edit Icon color ranges and Value color ranges; set the same boundaries in both so the icon and the number always agree.
  • To change the band colors — edit the color of each range in Icon color ranges and Value color ranges.
  • To add a units label — set a custom Units label in the widget settings to indicate the index scale to end users.

Tips

  • IAI values can vary significantly by time of day and weather conditions; monitor alongside a wind speed widget to correlate high allergen dispersal with wind events.
  • For public health advisories, set an alert on the Elevated threshold (6) so notifications reach sensitive individuals before levels reach the Hazardous band.
  • Pair this card with an IAI chart card to let allergy sufferers see whether today’s reading is typical for the season or an unusual spike.
