Who it’s for

Facility managers, building automation engineers, and workplace managers ask “can I monitor illuminance across many zones in a compact layout where the lighting status is still instantly visible?” The horizontal background variant combines space efficiency with the full-card color signal.

What it does

A sensor reporting illuminance = 350 lx displays the reading in a horizontal card whose entire background fills with the band color: dark gray for Dim (0–100 lx), orange for Low (100–300 lx), dark orange for Moderate (300–500 lx), and red for Bright (above 500 lx).

  • Full-card background color makes illuminance status readable across a room without reading the number
  • Horizontal layout fits more zones per row on a multi-zone lighting dashboard
  • Shows one sensor’s reading per widget; tile multiple widgets to monitor all zones at a glance

How to set up

Data keys

KeyRoleTypeDescription
illuminanceMain valueTimeseriesIlluminance in lx; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Illuminance, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

Value ranges

Range (lx)LevelColor
0–100DimDark Gray
100–300LowOrange
300–500ModerateDark Orange
500+BrightRed

How to customize

  • To change the band thresholds — open the widget settings and adjust the boundaries to match the lighting standard for your space.
  • To change the background colors — edit the background color for each level in the widget settings.
  • To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.

Tips

  • A row of horizontal background cards, one per zone, lets the lighting engineer spot a lamp failure (dark gray) or a daylight sensor over-ride fault (red) across an entire floor at a glance.
  • Use consistent band colors across all environment widgets for space status.
  • For smart office deployments, this compact format works well on a mobile-optimized dashboard where the full-card background conveys the lighting status even on a small screen.
