Who it’s for

Facility managers, building automation engineers, and workplace managers ask “where does the current light level sit on the scale?” The background variant adds a full-card color signal to the progress bar so the lighting status is visible at a distance.

What it does

A sensor reporting illuminance = 350 lx displays the value as a horizontal bar on a card whose background fills with the current band color: dark gray for Dim (0–100 lx), orange for Low (100–300 lx), dark orange for Moderate (300–500 lx), and red for Bright (above 500 lx).

  • Full-card background color communicates illuminance status at a glance from a distance
  • Progress bar shows where the current value sits within the full illuminance range
  • Shows one sensor’s reading per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different zones

How to set up

Data keys

KeyRoleTypeDescription
illuminanceBar valueTimeseriesIlluminance in lx; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Illuminance, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

500+BrightRed

How to customize

  • To change the bar range — open the widget settings and adjust the minimum and maximum tick values (default 0–1000 lx).
  • To change the band thresholds — adjust the boundaries to match your space’s lighting standard.
  • To change the background colors — edit the background color for each band in the widget settings.

Tips

  • On a wall-mounted building management display, the colored background gives staff an instant lighting status read from across the room while the bar’s fill position shows exactly where the reading sits within the band.
  • Use consistent band colors across all environment widgets for space status.
  • Pair this widget with occupancy sensors so operators can cross-check: if the space is occupied but the card shows a Dim background, the lighting control system is not responding correctly to occupancy detection.
