Who it’s for

Facility managers, building managers, and smart home owners ask “can I see temperature trend and comfort status at a glance?” The background variant combines a compact sparkline with a full-card color signal for wall-mounted displays.

What it does

A sensor reporting temperature = 21°C renders a compact sparkline-style trend line and the current value on a card whose entire background fills with the comfort color: blue for Cold (below 18°C), light green for Comfortable (18–24°C), and red for Hot (above 24°C).

  • Full-card background color makes temperature comfort level readable across a room without reading the number
  • Compact sparkline chart shows temperature direction at a glance in a space-efficient layout
  • Shows one sensor’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different rooms side by side

How to set up

Data keys

KeyRoleTypeDescription
temperatureChart seriesTimeseriesIndoor temperature in °C; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key
LatestLatest valueTimeseriesThe headline figure above the chart. Its own color ranges are where the band colors are edited

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Temperature, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

Value ranges

Range (°C)LevelColor
0–18ColdBlue
18–24ComfortableGreen
24+HotRed

How to customize

  • To change the comfort thresholds — edit the color ranges on the Latest data key.
  • To change the background colors — edit the color of each range on the Latest data key.
  • To switch units to °F — change the Units field and adjust the thresholds accordingly in the widget settings.

Tips

  • On a wall display, the colored background announces thermal comfort status from across the room while the sparkline shows whether the temperature is stable, rising toward the Hot band, or recovering after a setback period.
  • Use this card when you need both a trend signal and at-a-glance comfort status in a compact footprint — for example, one card per floor on a building overview screen.
  • Use consistent comfort colors across all temperature widgets: green is comfortable, blue needs heating, red needs cooling.
