Indoor temperature range chart with background
Who it’s for
Facility managers, building managers, and energy managers ask “how long was this space outside the comfort range?” The background variant adds a full-card color signal to the range chart so current comfort is visible at a distance.
What it does
A sensor reporting temperature = 21°C renders a color-coded area chart on a card whose background also reflects the current comfort status: blue for Cold (below 18°C), light green for Comfortable (18–24°C), and red for Hot (above 24°C). A data zoom slider lets users focus on any sub-range of the selected time window.
- Full-card background color makes current temperature comfort level readable across a room without reading the number
- Color-coded area chart shows the comfort status for every historical point in the selected time window
- Data zoom slider lets users drill into overnight cool-down periods, morning warm-up, or peak afternoon heat
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
temperature | Chart series | Timeseries | Indoor temperature in °C; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Temperature, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range (°C) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–18 | Cold | Blue |
| 18–24 | Comfortable | Green |
| 24+ | Hot | Red |
How to customize
- To change the time window — adjust the dashboard time filter to show the last hour, day, or week of temperature readings.
- To change the comfort thresholds — open the widget settings and adjust the band boundaries.
- To change the background and range colors — edit the color for each comfort band in the widget settings.
Tips
- On a wall display, the colored background tells the operator the current comfort status from across the room while the chart provides the context needed to understand whether the current reading is a peak, a trough, or a stable condition.
- Use consistent comfort colors across all temperature widgets so facilities staff can interpret a colored background anywhere on the dashboard without reading the label.
- Pair this widget with the thermostat control widget on the same dashboard so occupants can see the historical pattern and adjust the setpoint in the same view.
