Power consumption chart card with background
Who it’s for
Energy managers, plant operators, and sustainability engineers ask “can I see power consumption trend and level at a glance?” The background variant combines a trend chart with a full-card color signal for wall-mounted energy control room displays.
What it does
A device reporting powerConsumption = 8 kW renders a time-series trend line, the current value, and delta figures on a card whose entire background fills with the consumption level color: green for Low (below 5 kW), orange for Moderate (5–15 kW), and red for High (above 15 kW).
- Full-card background color makes consumption level readable across a room without reading the number
- Time-series trend chart shows whether power draw is stable, rising, or declining
- Delta percentage and absolute delta quantify how much consumption has changed from the previous period
- Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different machines or circuits side by side
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
powerConsumption | Chart series | Timeseries | Power consumption in kW; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
| Latest | Latest value | Timeseries | The headline figure above the chart. Its own color ranges are where the band colors are edited |
| Delta percent | Percentage change | Timeseries | Change against the previous period, as a percentage |
| Delta absolute | Absolute change | Timeseries | Change against the previous period, in the key’s own unit |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Power consumption, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range (kW) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–5 | Low | Green |
| 5–15 | Moderate | Orange |
| 15+ | High | Red |
How to customize
- To change the consumption thresholds — edit the color ranges on the Latest data key to reflect your facility’s energy budget.
- To change the background colors — edit the color of each range on the Latest data key.
- To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.
Tips
- On an energy control room wall display, the colored background announces current consumption status from across the room while the trend chart shows whether the asset is within budget and stable.
- Use this card when you need both a trend signal and at-a-glance status in a visually prominent format — for example, one card per production cell on an energy overview screen.
- Use consistent consumption colors across all power widgets.
