Power consumption range chart
Who it’s for
Energy managers, plant operators, and sustainability engineers ask “how has power consumption varied over the shift or day, and how many readings fell in each consumption band?” They need a bar chart where each interval’s consumption level is immediately visible by color.
What it does
A device reporting powerConsumption = 8 kW renders a time-series bar chart where each bar is color-coded by consumption level: green for Low (below 5 kW), orange for Moderate (5–15 kW), and red for High (above 15 kW).
- Color-coded bar chart makes each interval’s consumption band visible at a glance across the full time period
- Data zoom slider lets operators focus on any time window — a full shift, a production run, or a specific hour
- Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to compare consumption patterns across different machines or circuits
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
powerConsumption | Chart series | Timeseries | Power consumption in kW; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Power consumption, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range (kW) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–5 | Low | Green |
| 5–15 | Moderate | Orange |
| 15+ | High | Red |
How to customize
- To change the consumption thresholds — open the widget settings and adjust the band boundaries to reflect your facility’s energy budget.
- To change the bar colors — edit the color for each consumption band in the widget settings.
- To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.
Tips
- Use the data zoom slider to isolate a production shift and count how many intervals fell in the red band — this gives a measurable baseline for an energy reduction initiative.
- A cluster of red bars during a known idle period (e.g., lunch break) highlights standby losses that are easy to eliminate with automated shutdown controls.
- Pair with an efficiency range chart on the same row to see whether high-consumption periods correlate with low-efficiency periods, which would indicate the machine is working harder for less output.
