Pressure range chart
Who it’s for
Process engineers, plant operators, and maintenance technicians ask “how long has this line been in each pressure operating band over the shift or day?” They need a chart that shows not just current pressure but the time spent in each zone.
What it does
A device reporting pressure = 8 bar renders a time-series area chart overlaid on horizontal color bands: blue for Low (below 5 bar), green for Normal (5–10 bar), orange for Elevated (10–15 bar), and red for High (above 15 bar). The chart background is divided into these zones so operators can instantly see which operating band the pressure occupies at any point in time. A data zoom slider lets operators examine any sub-period in detail.
- Color-banded area chart shows pressure trend against operating zone boundaries simultaneously
- Data zoom slider lets operators focus on any time window — a full shift, a process transient, or a specific incident
- Shows one sensor’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different lines or vessels side by side
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
pressure | Chart series | Timeseries | Fluid pressure in bar; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Pressure, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range (bar) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–5 | Low | Blue |
| 5–10 | Normal | Green |
| 10–15 | Elevated | Orange |
| 15+ | High | Red |
How to customize
- To change the operating thresholds — open the widget settings and adjust the band boundaries.
- To change the band colors — edit the color for each operating band in the widget settings.
- To change the units — change the Units field in the widget settings to match your pressure sensor’s output.
Tips
- Use the data zoom slider to isolate a pressure transient and compare the duration and magnitude with previous incidents to assess whether system behavior is changing over time.
- A line that repeatedly spikes into the Elevated band during a shift is a sign of water hammer, valve chatter, or pump cycling — zoom in to find the exact timestamps and correlate with flow data.
- Pair with a flow rate range chart on the same row to see whether pressure spikes align with sudden flow changes, which can indicate a valve closing too quickly.
