Rotational speed card
Who it’s for
Maintenance engineers, machine operators, and plant supervisors ask “what is the current rotational speed of this motor or shaft and is it within the normal operating range?” They need a single-value card that communicates speed status at a glance.
What it does
A device reporting rotationalSpeed = 1200 RPM renders the current value in a card color-coded by operating level: blue for Low (below 500 RPM), green for Normal (500–1500 RPM), orange for Elevated (1500–3000 RPM), and red for High (above 3000 RPM).
- Live speed reading in RPM with color coding across four operating bands
- Color-coded icon and value make the operating level immediately visible
- Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different motors or drives side by side
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
rotationalSpeed | Main value | Timeseries | Rotational speed in RPM; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Rotational speed, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range (RPM) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–500 | Low | Blue |
| 500–1500 | Normal | Green |
| 1500–3000 | Elevated | Orange |
| 3000+ | High | Red |
How to customize
- To change the operating thresholds — edit Icon color ranges and Value color ranges; set the same boundaries in both so the icon and the number always agree.
- To change the card colors — edit the color for each operating band in the widget settings.
- To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.
Tips
- Place one card per motor or drive on a machine overview screen so operators can scan all rotating equipment for speed anomalies in a single view.
- A blue card (Low) on a motor that should be running at full speed indicates a drive fault, overload trip, or process issue — combine this widget with an alarm rule to alert on unexpected low-speed conditions.
- Use consistent operating colors across all rotational speed widgets.
