Rotational speed chart card with background
Who it’s for
Maintenance engineers, machine operators, and plant supervisors ask “can I see rotational speed trend and operating status at a glance?” The background variant combines a trend chart with a full-card color signal for wall-mounted control room displays.
What it does
A device reporting rotationalSpeed = 1200 RPM renders a time-series trend line, the current value, and delta figures on a card whose entire background fills with the operating level color: blue for Low (below 500 RPM), green for Normal (500–1500 RPM), orange for Elevated (1500–3000 RPM), and red for High (above 3000 RPM).
- Full-card background color makes rotational speed operating level readable across a room without reading the number
- Time-series trend chart shows whether speed is stable, rising, or declining
- Delta percentage and absolute delta quantify how much speed has changed from the previous period
- Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different motors or drives side by side
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
rotationalSpeed | Chart series | Timeseries | Rotational speed in RPM; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
| Latest | Latest value | Timeseries | The headline figure above the chart. Its own color ranges are where the band colors are edited |
| Delta percent | Percentage change | Timeseries | Change against the previous period, as a percentage |
| Delta absolute | Absolute change | Timeseries | Change against the previous period, in the key’s own unit |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Rotational speed, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
How to customize
- To change the operating thresholds — edit the color ranges on the Latest data key to match your machine’s rated speed range.
- To change the background colors — edit the color of each range on the Latest data key.
- To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.
Tips
- On a control room wall display, the colored background announces current motor status from across the room while the trend chart shows whether the machine is running stably or the speed is drifting.
- Use this card when you need both a trend signal and at-a-glance status in a visually prominent format — for example, one card per drive on a motor control overview screen.
- Use consistent operating colors across all rotational speed widgets.
