Who it’s for

Maintenance engineers, machine operators, and plant supervisors ask “can I see rotational speed history against operating zones?” The background variant adds a full-card color signal for wall-mounted control room displays.

What it does

A device reporting rotationalSpeed = 1200 RPM renders a time-series area chart overlaid on horizontal color bands on a card whose entire background fills with the current operating level color: blue for Low (below 500 RPM), green for Normal (500–1500 RPM), orange for Elevated (1500–3000 RPM), and red for High (above 3000 RPM).

  • Full-card background color makes current rotational speed operating level readable across a room without reading the number
  • Color-banded area chart shows speed trend against operating zone boundaries simultaneously
  • Data zoom slider lets operators focus on any time window within the displayed period
  • Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different motors or drives side by side

How to set up

Data keys

rotationalSpeedChart seriesTimeseriesRotational speed in RPM; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Rotational speed, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

How to customize

  • To change the operating thresholds — open the widget settings and adjust the band boundaries to match your machine’s rated speed range.
  • To change the background and band colors — edit the color for each operating band in the widget settings.
  • To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.

Tips

  • On a control room wall display, the colored background announces current motor status from across the room while the banded chart tells the story of how speed has varied over the period.
  • Use this card on a large monitor dedicated to a single drive system where both trend history and current status must be legible from a standing position.
  • Use consistent operating colors across all rotational speed widgets.
