Who it’s for

Energy managers, plant operators, and sustainability engineers ask “can I see power consumption trend and level at a glance?” The background variant combines a compact sparkline with a full-card color signal for wall-mounted energy control room displays.

What it does

A device reporting powerConsumption = 8 kW renders a compact sparkline-style trend line and the current value on a card whose entire background fills with the consumption level color: green for Low (below 5 kW), orange for Moderate (5–15 kW), and red for High (above 15 kW).

  • Full-card background color makes consumption level readable across a room without reading the number
  • Compact sparkline chart shows power consumption direction at a glance in a space-efficient layout
  • Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different machines or circuits side by side

How to set up

Data keys

KeyRoleTypeDescription
powerConsumptionChart seriesTimeseriesPower consumption in kW; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key
LatestLatest valueTimeseriesThe headline figure above the chart. Its own color ranges are where the band colors are edited

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Power consumption, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

Value ranges

Range (kW)LevelColor
0–5LowGreen
5–15ModerateOrange
15+HighRed

How to customize

  • To change the consumption thresholds — edit the color ranges on the Latest data key to reflect your facility’s energy budget.
  • To change the background colors — edit the color of each range on the Latest data key.
  • To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.

Tips

  • On an energy control room wall display, the colored background announces current consumption status from across the room while the sparkline shows whether the draw is stable, rising, or recovering after a production stop.
  • Use this card when you need both a trend signal and at-a-glance status in a compact footprint — for example, one card per sub-meter on a facility energy overview screen.
  • Use consistent consumption colors across all power widgets.
