Simple rotational speed chart card
Who it’s for
Maintenance engineers, machine operators, and plant supervisors ask “what is the speed trend for this motor and what is the RPM right now?” They need a compact chart that combines trend and current reading in the smallest possible footprint.
What it does
A device reporting rotationalSpeed = 1200 RPM renders a compact sparkline-style trend line and the current value together in a single card, color-coded by operating level: blue for Low (below 500 RPM), green for Normal (500–1500 RPM), orange for Elevated (1500–3000 RPM), and red for High (above 3000 RPM).
- Compact sparkline chart shows rotational speed direction at a glance without occupying the space of a full chart card
- Live speed reading in RPM with color coding across four operating bands
- Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different motors or drives side by side
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
rotationalSpeed | Chart series | Timeseries | Rotational speed in RPM; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
| Latest | Latest value | Timeseries | The headline figure above the chart. Its own color ranges are where the band colors are edited |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Rotational speed, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range (RPM) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–500 | Low | Blue |
| 500–1500 | Normal | Green |
| 1500–3000 | Elevated | Orange |
| 3000+ | High | Red |
How to customize
- To change the operating thresholds — edit the color ranges on the Latest data key to match your machine’s rated speed range.
- To change the chart colors — edit the color of each range on the Latest data key.
- To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.
Tips
- The simple chart card fits more drives per row than the full chart card — use it for a plant-wide motor status overview where you only need trend direction and current speed, not delta percentages.
- A declining sparkline alongside a Normal reading is an early warning that the motor is slowing below its setpoint — a useful prompt for a drive or load check before it drops into the Low band.
- Pair with a vibration simple chart card on the same row for a two-variable mechanical condition panel that fits twice as many motors on screen as the full chart cards.
