Volatile organic compounds card with background
Who it’s for
Indoor air quality managers, building managers, and health and safety officers ask “can I see the VOC status for every monitored room at a glance, without reading individual numbers?” The background-color variant is designed for facilities dashboards where a single colored card must communicate the air quality situation from across a room.
What it does
A sensor reporting voc = 320 ppb displays the reading on a card whose entire background fills with the severity color: green for Good (0–500 ppb), orange for Moderate (500–1000 ppb), and red for Hazardous (above 1000 ppb).
- Full-card background color makes VOC severity readable across a room without reading the number
- Live VOC reading in ppb
- Shows one sensor’s reading per widget; tile multiple widgets to monitor all rooms and zones at a glance
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
voc | Main value | Timeseries | VOC concentration in ppb; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled VOCs, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–500 | Good | Green |
| 500–1000 | Moderate | Orange |
| 1000+ | Hazardous | Red |
How to customize
- To change the severity thresholds — edit Icon color ranges and Value color ranges; set the same boundaries in both so the icon and the number always agree.
- To change the background colors — edit the background color for each severity level in the widget settings.
- To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if your sensor reports in µg/m³.
Tips
- On a facilities management display showing one card per room, the background color lets the duty manager spot a single elevated space instantly after a cleaning or renovation event without scanning numbers.
- Use consistent severity colors across all indoor air quality widgets: green is safe, red needs action.
- For health and safety compliance, pair this card with a VOC chart card so inspectors can see both the current reading and whether the level has been trending up or down over the past day.
