Who it’s for

Process engineers, plant operators, and maintenance technicians ask “what is the flow rate trend for this line, what is the level right now, and how much has it changed?” They need a chart that shows current value, direction, and delta in a single card.

What it does

A device reporting flowRate = 22 m³/hr renders a time-series trend line alongside the current value, a percentage delta from the previous period, and an absolute delta. The chart and values are color-coded by operating level: blue for Low (below 10 m³/hr), green for Normal (10–30 m³/hr), orange for Elevated (30–50 m³/hr), and red for High (above 50 m³/hr).

  • Time-series trend chart shows whether flow rate is stable, rising, or declining
  • Live flow rate reading in m³/hr with color coding across four operating bands
  • Delta percentage and absolute delta quantify how much flow has changed from the previous period
  • Shows one sensor’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different pipes or pumps side by side

How to set up

Data keys

KeyRoleTypeDescription
flowRateChart seriesTimeseriesFlow rate in m³/hr; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key
LatestLatest valueTimeseriesThe headline figure above the chart. Its own color ranges are where the band colors are edited
Delta percentPercentage changeTimeseriesChange against the previous period, as a percentage
Delta absoluteAbsolute changeTimeseriesChange against the previous period, in the key’s own unit

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Flow rate, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

How to customize

  • To change the operating thresholds — edit the color ranges on the Latest data key.
  • To change the chart colors — edit the color of each range on the Latest data key.
  • To change the units — change the Units field in the widget settings to match your flow meter’s output.

Tips

  • A rising trend alongside a Normal reading is an early warning that flow is moving toward the Elevated band — investigate the cause before it escalates.
  • Use the delta to distinguish a steady-state process from one responding to a setpoint change or valve adjustment: a large positive delta confirms the change took effect.
  • Pair with a fluid pressure chart card on the same row to correlate flow changes with pressure variations across the same pipeline segment.
