Who it’s for

Process engineers, plant operators, and maintenance technicians ask “where does the current flow rate sit on the full operating scale, and which zone is it in?” They need a gauge that shows absolute position within the operating range, not just a number.

What it does

A device reporting flowRate = 22 m³/hr renders a radial gauge with the needle pointing to 22 on a 0–90 m³/hr arc divided into colored zones: blue for Low (0–10 m³/hr), green for Normal (10–30 m³/hr), orange for Elevated (30–50 m³/hr), and red for High (50–90 m³/hr).

  • Radial gauge shows position within the 0–90 m³/hr operating range at a glance
  • Color-coded arc zones let operators read the operating band without checking thresholds
  • Shows one sensor’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different pipes or pumps side by side

How to set up

Data keys

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Flow rate, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

How to customize

  • To change the gauge range — open the widget settings and adjust the minimum and maximum values to match your flow meter’s full-scale range.
  • To change the zone boundaries — adjust the band thresholds in the widget settings.
  • To change the zone colors — edit the color for each operating band in the widget settings.

Tips

  • Set the gauge maximum to the highest expected flow for the process line — a needle at 80% of arc is more readable than one pinned at maximum because the sensor range was set too low.
  • The radial gauge format works well on large monitoring screens where operators need to read flow status across the room; the needle position is visible from a greater distance than a numeric card.
  • Pair with a fluid pressure gauge on the same row to show the hydraulic state of a pipeline segment — flow and pressure together describe whether a pump is running efficiently.
