Power consumption card
Who it’s for
Energy managers, plant operators, and sustainability engineers ask “what is the current power draw for this machine or circuit and is it within budget?” They need a single-value card that communicates consumption level at a glance.
What it does
A device reporting powerConsumption = 8 kW renders the current value in a card color-coded by consumption level: green for Low (below 5 kW), orange for Moderate (5–15 kW), and red for High (above 15 kW).
- Live power reading in kW with color coding across three consumption bands
- Color-coded icon and value make the consumption level immediately visible
- Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different machines or circuits side by side
How to set up
Data keys
| Key | Role | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
powerConsumption | Main value | Timeseries | Power consumption in kW; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key |
The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Power consumption, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.
To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.
Value ranges
| Range (kW) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| 0–5 | Low | Green |
| 5–15 | Moderate | Orange |
| 15+ | High | Red |
How to customize
- To change the consumption thresholds — edit Icon color ranges and Value color ranges; set the same boundaries in both so the icon and the number always agree.
- To change the card colors — edit the color for each consumption band in the widget settings.
- To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if your meter reports in a different unit (e.g., W, kVA).
Tips
- Place one card per sub-meter or machine on an energy overview screen so energy managers can scan consumption across all assets without drilling into individual dashboards.
- A red card on a machine that should be idle indicates a standby draw issue — combine this widget with an alarm rule on the same key to catch abnormal off-hours consumption automatically.
- Use consistent consumption colors across all power widgets.
