Who it’s for

Energy managers, plant operators, and sustainability engineers ask “what is the power consumption trend for this asset, what is the draw right now, and how much has it changed?” They need a chart that shows current value, direction, and delta in a single card.

What it does

A device reporting powerConsumption = 8 kW renders a time-series trend line alongside the current value, a percentage delta from the previous period, and an absolute delta. The chart and values are color-coded by consumption level: green for Low (below 5 kW), orange for Moderate (5–15 kW), and red for High (above 15 kW).

  • Time-series trend chart shows whether power draw is stable, rising, or declining
  • Live power reading in kW with color coding across three consumption bands
  • Delta percentage and absolute delta quantify how much consumption has changed from the previous period
  • Shows one asset’s data per widget; add multiple widgets to monitor different machines or circuits side by side

How to set up

Data keys

KeyRoleTypeDescription
powerConsumptionChart seriesTimeseriesPower consumption in kW; change the key name to match your device’s telemetry key
LatestLatest valueTimeseriesThe headline figure above the chart. Its own color ranges are where the band colors are edited
Delta percentPercentage changeTimeseriesChange against the previous period, as a percentage
Delta absoluteAbsolute changeTimeseriesChange against the previous period, in the key’s own unit

The widget ships with a simulated function datasource key labeled Power consumption, so it draws random values until you point the datasource at a device and rename the key.

To point it at your own device: open the dashboard in edit mode, open the widget’s Datasources, pick the entity or entity alias, and replace the function key with the key your device reports.

Value ranges

Range (kW)LevelColor
0–5LowGreen
5–15ModerateOrange
15+HighRed

How to customize

  • To change the consumption thresholds — edit the color ranges on the Latest data key to reflect your facility’s energy budget.
  • To change the chart colors — edit the color of each range on the Latest data key.
  • To rename the units label — change the Units field in the widget settings if needed.

Tips

  • A rising trend alongside a Moderate reading is an early warning that consumption is drifting toward the High band — investigate the cause before energy costs escalate.
  • Use the delta to compare consumption between similar time periods: a large positive delta at the same production output suggests a developing equipment inefficiency.
  • Pair with an efficiency chart card on the same row to correlate rising power draw with declining efficiency — the combination is a strong indicator of machine degradation.
