Subscription Plans

ThingsBoard offers two payment models: subscriptions (pay-as-you-go) and perpetual fallback licenses.

With a subscription, you pay for the time you use the license, with no per-message fees. This keeps upfront licensing costs low for startups and suits established businesses that build and ship IoT solutions.

• Non-commercial — free, for education, research, and non-profit use.
• Free — free, to start exploring the platform.
• Pilot — for teams launching an IoT project.
• Startup — for defined long-term projects.
• Business — for scalable IoT growth.

Compare the plans on the pricing page.

Sign in to the License Portal (or register), or click Get your license on the pricing page. Then:

1. Go to Subscriptions and click Add Subscription (+).
2. Choose product — select ThingsBoard.
3. Choose subscription plan — select a plan and review what it includes.
4. Customize — add production instances (for clustering and high availability), AI credits, Remote Agents, and the Edge Computing or Trendz Analytics add-ons. The Calculation summary shows the total price.
5. Order summary — review the order, accept the ThingsBoard License Agreement, and click Create subscription. For a paid plan, add a card if you have no saved payment method.
6. Copy the license secret shown after the subscription is created.

If your account has no billing information, the wizard adds a Billing info step before Order summary (free plans skip it). To add billing details in advance, see Billing info.

A subscription covers one production instance (server process) by default. To run a cluster, for example in a container-based setup, add production instances in the Customize step. All nodes use the same license secret. See Managing Instances.

You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. If you cancel a subscription before it ends, the unused amount becomes account credit.

To show canceled subscriptions, turn on Display canceled subscriptions on the Subscriptions page.
