Subscription Plans

ThingsBoard Inc. provides customers with two payment models: subscriptions (pay-as-you-go) and perpetual fallback licenses.

Pay-as-you-go is a billing model in which you pay for a ThingsBoard license on a time basis, with no additional fees per message. It suits small companies and start-ups that want to minimize upfront licensing costs, as well as established businesses that are developing and releasing IoT solutions.

Available Plans

  • Non-commercial — free, for education, research, and non-profit use.
  • Free — free, to start exploring the platform.
  • Pilot — for teams launching an IoT project.
  • Startup — for defined long-term projects.
  • Business — for scalable IoT growth.

Create a Subscription

Section titled “Create a Subscription”

Sign in to the License Portal (or register), or click Get your license on the pricing page. Then:

  1. Go to Subscriptions and click Add Subscription (+).
  2. Choose product — select ThingsBoard.
  3. Choose subscription plan — select a plan and review what it includes.
  4. Customize — add production instances (for clustering and high availability), AI credits, Remote Agents, and the Edge Computing or Trendz Analytics add-ons. The Calculation summary shows the total price.
  5. Billing info — enter your company, tax ID, contact details, and billing address. Free plans skip this step.
  6. Order summary — review the order, accept the ThingsBoard License Agreement, and click Create subscription. For a paid plan, add a card if your account has no payment method yet (payments are processed by Stripe; see Billing info for wire transfer).
  7. Copy the license secret shown after the subscription is created.

Instances

Section titled “Instances”

By default, a subscription covers a single ThingsBoard production instance (server process). You can add more production instances to the same subscription in the Customize step. This allows launching multiple instances that use the same subscription credentials in one server cluster, which is useful for container-based setups.

Manage a Subscription

Once you purchase a subscription, you can upgrade or downgrade your subscription plan at any time.

To see canceled subscriptions in the list, turn on Display canceled subscriptions on the Subscriptions page.
