Calculated Fields

Calculated Fields is a catalog of pre-configured formulas and aggregations in ThingsBoard’s IoT Hub, designed to automate complex metrics like fuel efficiency or power factor. Each calculated field installs directly into ThingsBoard’s Calculated fields section and attaches to an entity of your choice — a device, asset, device profile, or asset profile.

To open the catalog, click IoT Hub in the ThingsBoard left sidebar and select Calculated Fields.

1. Browse the catalog and find the calculated field you want.
2. Click the calculated field card to open its detail panel and review the description, formula, and supported entity types before installing.
3. Click Install — either directly on the card or from inside the detail panel.
4. In the installation dialog, select the target entity: choose the entity type (Device, Asset, Device profile, or Asset profile) and the specific entity or profile to attach the field to.
5. Click Install to confirm. The button activates once an entity is selected.
6. After installation completes, the calculated field detail page opens automatically.

Click the Installed Items button at the top of the Calculated Fields page to open the list of installed fields. Click the Remove icon next to the field you want to remove and confirm the action.

Click the Installed Items button at the top of the Calculated Fields page, then click Check for updates in the top-right corner. ThingsBoard compares all installed fields against the latest versions and adds an Updates column showing either Up to date or an available version to install.
